Come feel the fun at SUNWAY LAGOON

The brochure/map of Sunway Lagoon proudly states, “Come Feel The Fun,” and indeed, that’s what we really experienced when we went there on 31 August 2009.

I was feeling a bit under the weather when I woke up that day, because I had cough and colds, and I could feel my allergic rhinitis starting to do its damage. I had a hard time getting myself off the bed, but I didn’t want to miss even a single day of our trip, so I forced myself to prepare for the day’s adventure.

I’m so glad I did.

Sunway Lagoon, as the brochure says, is the first water-themed park in Malaysia and has been open since 1992. There are six parks inside, with various themes. Our very able tour guide got our passes for us and we were given these very cool wristbands which served as our tickets.

Our first destination once we where inside was the World Of Adventure. We all rode the Lost City of Gold, a roller coaster. We had fun screaming our tonsils out.

Our project handler, Ms. Zuh Abas, and Sarah Matalam, one of our co-participants, rode the Colorado Splash, a ride which is part of the Wild Wild West. It looked pretty exciting, but I’m not too keen on riding rides which are too “open,” so to speak. I’m a scaredy-cat when it comes to those kinds of rides. Zuh and Sarah had a blast, though.

We got ourselves wet when we tried the Grand Canyon River Rapids. Fun, fun!

The next stop was the Pirate’s Revenge, which is part of the World of Adventure. In the Philippines, my favorite ride in Enchanted Kingdom, a theme park in Laguna, is Anchors Away. I thought Pirate’s Revenge was going  to be just like Anchors Away. I did not expect that it would go all the way around, in a 360 degree-turn!!! It was by far, the scariest ride I’ve ever tried. ONCE IS ENOUGH.

When we trodded off to the next ride, the Tomahawk, I begged off, seeing that the ride looked a lot scarier than the Pirate’s Revenge. I have to admire Zuh for having the guts to ride this scary ride. Not only did the Tomahawk go around several times, it did so in quick succession! Wow.

After trying those exciting rides at the World of Adventure and the Wild Wild West, we decided to proceed to the lower part of the lagoon. We passed by the Sunway Wildlife Interactive Zoo, but we all decided to forego going to the said theme park. I’m sure though, that children and animal enthusiasts would like the Interactive Zoo.

We then had our first glimpse of the Sunway Surf Beach. The beach was HUGE. We didn’t get to see the wave machine being used, but it was still a sight to see.

A pedestrian suspension bridge hangs over the beach, too. It is said to be the world’s largest, at 428 meters.

We then proceeded to the Waters of Africa, where the pools and slides looked so inviting!

We then went to the Extreme Park. Nobody dared try the anti-gravity machine, although it did look quite exciting.  We had fun going around in All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs).

There were so many other rides we couldn’t try, because we only had limited time. The Extreme Park also offers wall climbing, a paintball shooting range, a paintball war zone, kayaking, jet boats, swan rides and the flying fox.

One day is indeed, not enough time to enjoy all that Sunway Lagoon has to offer. If you want to stay longer, you can opt to stay at the Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa.

After enjoying the theme park, we went to the Sunway Pyramid for some serious shopping. I enjoyed buying stuff for my baby and since it’s Ramadhan, almost everything was very cheap. Ah, what a truly fun day it was.

Note: Thanks to Donna Guevara and Sarah Matalam for some of the photos here.
